Answers to some technical FAQs

This page provides general information regarding swadhyay conducted in Houston, TX area; and tries to answer some frequently asked technical questions.

What is the requirement to join a Swadhyay Video Session?
You will need a computer with Broadband Internet Connection. You will also need Internet Explorer (or any other browser) with Adobe Flash Software Installed. Easiest way to verify if - you have flash or not - is to see if you can watch a video on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com).

I have iPAD. Is it possible to join a Swadhyay video session via iPAD (or iPhone, iTouch or any iOS device)?
Note that, the links provided on right to join swadhyay will not work if you opened them on your iPAD's safari browser. However, the good news is you can participate in Swadhyay with your iPAD (or any other iOS device). You will need to follow these steps:
  • Install USTREAM application (by ustream.tv, inc) from the apple app store on your device (The application is free as of this writing). This has to be done once.
  • Once USTREAM application is installed, launch the application by tapping the application.
  • In the application, you will see a search box in the bar on top. Type "g4gnayak" in the search box. And tap the magnifying glass symbol to search.
  • When you find "Swadhyay" channel (the channel logo is OM symbol), tap on it. This will connect you to swadhyay channel.
If the moderator has started the video conference, then you will be automatically connected to the session. If the conference has not yet started, you will see a message reading "Off Air". In that case, just wait. You will receive live picture as soon as the session starts. Once connected, you can double tap to toggle between full-screen and channel view.

When you enter the conference, an advertisement may play for approximately half a minute.

Can I join a session via telephone? What if I am away from my computer?
Yes you can. The number to call is listed under the Information Section on the right. Please note that, you might incur long distance charges depending on your plan.

Can I actively participate in Swadhyay instead of just being a listener? How do I ask questions to the speaker?
Yes. You can participate and ask questions. To do so, you must connect to the telephone conference (currently you need to do this even if you are connected to the video session. Please see "Why I can not ask questions via video conference?").

Once you are connected to the telephone conference, please follow these steps to participate and ask questions.

  • Please press *6 (star and then 6) on your phone. This will unmute your line.
  • Now you can speak.
  • When you finish, please press *6 (star and then 6). This will mute your line.

I am connected to Video Conference. Can I ask questions to the speaker through my computer's mic?
Please note that swadhyay sessions are simultaneously transmitted over two different mediums: Video and Telephone. As you can understand, sound (telephone) travels faster than moving pictures (video) over the Internet. This causes slight delay (lag) in you receiving the video. And in spite of best of our efforts, we can NOT achieve these two mediums to synchronize. You will notice this if you participate in both video and telephone sessions.

Due to the delays involved, we have decided to allow Questions-Answers through telephone only. We might open up video questions once we grow comfortable with this technology.
